The “Indoctrination of Babel”

The “Convention of the Rights of the Child”

The current administration has indicated that they would likely bring the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) to the US Senate for ratification as soon as feasible. One of the clearly dangerous aspects of the U.N.’s Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is the impact it will have on the education of all of our children and grandchildren. This will go beyond controlling public education to controlling all private and home education as well.

The 29th Article in the CRC requires that every child living in any country that has adopted (i.e. ratified) the CRC be indoctrinated to “respect…the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations….” The U.N. has made it abundantly clear in their paper The Aims of Education, that Article 29, “…is of far-reaching importance. The aims of education that it [Article 29] sets out …promote, support and protect the core value of the convention…. These aims [include] the holistic development of the full potential of the child, …including development of respect for human rights, …an enhanced sense of identity and affiliation, …and his or her socialization and interaction with others….”

The CRC redefines the purview of the education of every child to include every part of the child’s life and to change their values, associations, and their allegiance from God and their parents to the government. The UN would have all children “be of one mind.” As Jesus pointed out, and as Christians in many totalitarian societies over the past 2,000 years have discovered, it is not possible to serve two masters. One will be despised and ignored in favor of the other. (Matthew 6:24)

The purposes and goals of the CRC for the education of our children are completely antithetical to God’s purposes and goals, and are based on a worldview much like what resulted in the “Tower of Babel” incident. The “aims of education” of children, as defined by the CRC, would be enforced and would turn the hearts and minds of our children from God and their parents. Children would be taught to place their loyalty in man-made institutions and find their identity and self worth in so-called “human dignity” and “human rights.”

God has said, “You shall have no other gods before Me.” (Exodus 20:3, Deut. 5:7)

Genesis 11 records the “Tower of Babel” incident, where just about the entire population of the earth at that time had rejected God as their rightful and legitimate authority, provider and protector. They had established a manmade, man-centered system of governance and worship in place of God. This was not unlike the modern-day direction the U.N. is going, with its various treaties such as the CRC, which presume that the God of the Bible has no place in human affairs.

Noah and his sons and his sons’ wives had migrated from Mount Ararat to the plain of Shinar, where those generations eventually built the Tower of Babel. They had grown to be a good-sized group of people – four generations had been born to Noah’s sons. While it is not likely that there was any organized formal education system, each child in each generation learned from the previous generation what was important and what was not and who or what was to be honored and obeyed. Apparently, by the time of the generation of Shem’s great-great grandson, Peleg, pretty much the entire population was ignoring the one true God and misrepresenting Him in their religious teaching and practices. It was then that God scattered the people into separate language groups and nations (Genesis 11:10-18 and 10:25b).

If the US Senate ever ratifies the CRC, it would require laws dealing with education in every state to be changed to conform to the CRC. Our culture will quickly look and behave more and more like the culture of Babel. That culture’s values are crouching at the door, and its desire is for the hearts and minds of our children (e.g. Genesis 4:7; Ephesians 6:12).
