Are vaccines safe and effective? Is our present system of disease prevention through vaccines working well now? Many parents are reporting new behavioral, physical, and/or mental problems their children experience after receiving vaccines. With the media, the government, and the mainstream medical profession proclaiming the safety of and need for vaccinations, there are an increasing number of voices decrying the dangers of vaccines and calling for a reexamination of the way these drugs are tested, approved, promoted, and mandated.

The Greater Good is an award-winning film produced last year (2011). It seeks to open up the vaccine debate to the “opportunity to have a rational and scientific discussion,” something this topic has seen less and less of in the past two decades.

It is an eye-opening documentary, exploring the heartbreaks and challenges of three families whose children were significantly harmed through vaccines. Vaccines were given to these children to protect them from disease, yet instead they suffered great damage from the vaccine.

Vaccines are touted as necessary for the greater good of the community as a whole, to prevent communicable diseases that used to be terrible scourges of suffering and death. “There are always some risks,” the proponents of vaccinations admit, but they maintain that the benefits outweigh the risks. Often their thinking is that some can be sacrificed for the greater good. The film puts forth the question, “How many are being sacrificed?”

Even those who are not new to some of the issues of the vaccine debate may find plenty to startle them. For instance, how many are aware that the number of recommended or required vaccines for children has tripled since the 1980’s, from 23 doses of 7 vaccines to 69 doses of 16 vaccines? That 18,000 adverse reactions have been reported as a result of vaccinations? That not only the antigens are problematic, but also the added adjuvants and other substances are often toxic? That the tests of these vaccines are “fast-tracked” to approval with insufficient testing for short-term reactions, and with no testing for long-term effects?

We have all heard that the increase in autism may be linked to vaccines. But how many are aware of the reported link to a host of other serious reactions, both short-term like anaphylactic shock (resulting in death) and long-term chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, ADD, stroke, seizures, pancreatitis, auto-immune disease, transverse myelitis, juvenile ALS – and the list goes on and on? One in 110 children develops autism, and an incredible 1 in 6 children in our country has some neurological developmental disability. One in six!

So if the tripling of vaccines has coincided with an explosion of chronic disease and disability, why do we not hear more of the number and variety of the adverse reactions? Is it that there is no accredited research that supports those who have grave concerns? If there is published information, why isn’t it getting into the mainstream media? Why are we assured that vaccines are safe and necessary and everybody should have more and more of them? Is it really true, what we’ve all been told, that vaccines are responsible for the dramatic decline in deaths from contagious disease in the last century, or is there a better explanation? How do the media and the advertising industries enter into this? The Greater Good traces the political and financial pressures that have been in play to suppress the truth and resist change, and shows how, when it comes to oversight of the vaccine approval process, the fox has been guarding the henhouse.

Considering that “drug companies have spent more money lobbying in Washington than any other industry including oil and insurance,” will government be responsive when thousands of parents complain of adverse reactions in their children? “All of these are a coincidence,” is the answer, and special vaccine courts are set up to effectively stop lawsuits against manufacturers. “There has to be some trust involved,” we are told, and our children are required to submit to an ever-increasing number of vaccinations in order to attend school. And why must this be mandated? We are told that it is because “some parents don’t do what’s right for their children until they’re forced to.”

To this, the concerned parent may well ask, “Who is the determiner of ‘what is right’ for a child?” Is it the government, responding to the pressures of special interests, or the parents, who know their children and recognize when something has changed them forever? Although the claim is made that parents don’t have the necessary expertise, most parents are capable of making informed vaccination decisions themselves.

The Greater Good is an excellent DVD that can help equip parents with greater knowledge of this vital subject that will affect their child’s entire life. Hear the warnings before you subject your family to the well-meaning efforts of those who desire that you “rush to vaccinate.” The Greater Good DVD is available online at for your family, support group, and school.
